Crows and Fragments
Projection, watercolor, charred wood, ash, medical gauze
2024
Crows was from a trip with my father to the burn scar. I managed to capture a murder of crows, the only living creatures I had witnessed in the burn area, swarming among the burned trees. In conversation, we pondered how the crows escaped the fire and whether they could just fly away.
I installed Crows and Fragments at 6th St Studio at the Harwood Art Center and the Clinton Adams Gallery at the UNM Art Museum this spring. The work is stripped down into two smaller pieces, letting the projections play on short loops. Viewers had audio access to Crows, which played the conversation between me and my father, but could watch both projections play simultaneously.
